Funk Music

This style of music originally came from African Americans like the immortal James Brown. Funk is a blending of soul music, soul jazz, Rhythm & Blues, with influence from gospel, blues and jazz. Funk is initially identified by its routine stressing of the usually unstressed “back beat” or syncopation… also known as the hallmark of the Funk sound. Syncopation may be defined as the stressing of a normally unstressed beat in bar or the failure to sound the beat when accentuated. Funk music is distinctive due to its syncopated rhythms including a thick (on the one beat) bass line, and sharp rhythm guitars. Vocals may be chanted or yelled. A strong rhythm is accentuated by the horns and percussion. The African influence of dance and jazz permeates funk music. The dictionary meaning of “funk” was once defined as body odor or the scent of sex. It was considered indecent. Funk began with a mellow groove, and developed later with a hard-driving, insistent beat. Today, the music is defined as sexy and loose. Even in the early 1960s, the word “funk” was often used to describe soul music, but it was still considered indecent.

Linux is the favorite of many users because the software is “open” and available to anyone who wants to use it on their computer. The file structure is a lot like a tree where it just keeps branching out. All you need to do is find a Linux Distribution Kernal that you like. It’s best to get one that boots from a disk, then you can flip between operating systems with ease. Works great! You really need to give it a try.
